The beautiful resort of Skala lies 36 km southeast of Argostoli and 12 km from Poros. It counts 800 inhabitants, most of whom are involved in fishing and agriculture.

The settlement was built after the major earthquake of 1953 that destroyed the ancient village of Skala. The ruins of Old Skala still survive today.
